Hey,
I know that we already all agreed that John Wilkins' system was ridiculous, but I was just thinking about how names would work. Many people have the same name. In order for Wilkins' system to work everyone would need to have a different name so there would be no confusion. Even if John could find a way to name everyone different it would be so confusing.

If John Wilkins named people as well, I think each letter in them would have a meaning too. We would belong to the class of human(represented by a monosyllable), and subdivided into male and female (the difference represented by a consonant) followed by the same vowel because we are all the same species. It would be more like a numbering system, rather than a naming system. Say, Gabrielle would indicate human, girl, mammal, my height, a social class, maybe an indication of my parents, race or city of origin. But that is really complicated and sorta takes away from the idea of picking a name because of its meaning or sound.
